Eight years have passed since the release of Anti, the latest album by Rihanna, one of the pop stars who have marked the recording industry in recent years. The Barbadian pop star has managed to mark the pop world although in the last 10 years that is the only album released (the previous one was Unapologetic in 2012), demonstrating the enormous influence he had at the beginning of the 2000s, to the point which in 2023 was the protagonist of the Super Bowl, the most important sporting event in the United States which also brings with it the musical interlude in which the best of American music is performed every year.
For years now there has been talk of the singer’s return who, in the meantime, has also built an empire as an entrepreneur in the cosmetics sector, which continues to allow her to remain among the richest and most influential women in the Forbes rankings. Yet her fans have been waiting for a long time for her comeback, often announced and then promptly postponed. “R9” – as the fans now call it – is the follow-up to Anti and in an interview with Extra, Rihanna gave some more information on the making of this album, explaining that all this waiting is worth it because , he explains: “It’s going to be great. It has to be – that’s the only reason it hasn’t come out yet. If I don’t feel it and feel like it represents the evolution… the time I’ve spent away. There should be a show of growth, right?” the singer explained, implying that she is looking for perfection and the right sound.
Rihanna also went on to explain that she wanted to sing and have fun: “I want to play, and I feel like music is a playground, and I want to have fun and really show where I’m at.” During the interview the singer also spoke about the possibility of a feat, but only if it came with an artist of international level. Already a week ago, the singer had hinted at her next album, explaining: “I already have some things that I feel like I could make hits from.” Last year, close to her performance at the Super Bowl, Rihanna declared that the album would be released by 2023: “I want it to be this year. Honestly, it would be ridiculous if it wasn’t this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos… And I need the right background music with the visuals. I can’t just go and make a video while I’m talking.” Is 2024 the right year?
