The Weekender: listen to albums by St.Vincent, Thom Yorke, Neil Young (and many more…) released today

For some years now, Friday has been the day of the week dedicated to record releases. What better way then to mentally prepare for the upcoming long-awaited weekend than to review the best albums released in the last few hours?
The records awaited for months are finally among us… enjoy listening

ST.VINCENT – “All Born Screaming”
[Total Pleasure]
pop, alt-rock

In “All Born Screaming”, the first self-produced album of St. Vincentthe Clark it shows itself without any type of filter. As the album’s sole producer, she was able to immediately capture on tape those sounds born in her mind, in her heart and in her hands. She says the Clark:

There are some places within us that we can only reach if we go through the woods alone, to discover what our heart has to say. It sounds real because it is real.

“All Born Screaming” is an invitation to challenge the limits of the possible and to go beyond them. Thanks also to the help of a very careful selection of friends and collaborators such as Rachel Eckroth, Josh Freese, Dave Grohl, Mark Guiliana, Cate Le Bon, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Stella Mogzawa And David Ralickethis new work is an absolute representation of the unique vision of St. Vincent.

THOM YORKE – “Confidence” OST
[XL Recordings]
cinematic, electronic

“Confidenza” follows the original soundtrack signed by Thom Yorke for the remake of “Suspiria” by Luca Guadagnino of 2018. The album is produced by Sam Petts-Davies (“Suspiria”, The Smile “Wall Of Eyes”)and see Petts-Davies And Yorke work with the again London Contemporary Orchestra along with a jazz ensemble that includes Robert Stillman and the member of the The Smile Tom Skinner.

THE ZUTONS – “The Big Decider”
[ICEPOP]
indie rock

After 16 years the Zutons are back! Written against the backdrop of a decade and a half of lived experiences, it was born under the weight of family tragedies, lives lost and created, reality checks, and home truths faced and rejected. Whipped into shape under the steam that only decades-long friendships – with all their messy fights, make-ups, breakups and, ultimately, love – can produce, “The Big Decider” has become the sound of water passes under the bridge, and the love of music, the love of each other and the love of creation together become the most important thing of all.

NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE – “Fu#in’ Up”
[Reprise]
rock

“Fu#in’ Up” is the new live album by Neil Young & Crazy Horse (with the addition of Micah Nelson) and was recorded during the “secret concert” at The Rivoli club in Toronto, on November 4, 2023. Nine tracks included, which retrace the entire Ragged Glory (with the exception of “Mother Earth”): the songs are indicated in tracklist with a different title, except “Farmer John” probably as a cover.

JUSTICE – “Hyperdrama”
[Ed Banger/Because Music]
electronic, dance

First album in seven years (“Woman” was released in 2016) for the French duo. In “Hyperdrama”, which we will listen to live in Italy on a single date on Friday 14 June at the Nameless Festival in Annone di Brianza (LC), we also find excellent collaborations such as Tame Impala And Miguel.

PET SHOP BOYS – “Nonetheless”
[Parlophone]
electro-pop

The duo declares on this new album:

We wanted this album to be a celebration of the unique and diverse emotions that make us human. From the more dance-oriented numbers to the raw intensity of the introspective ballads, with their beautiful string arrangements, each track tells a story and contributes to the overall narrative of the album. We are excited to release this new album. Its 10 tracks are the strongest indicators of where we are today. Like a lot of our music, it’s very reflective. It was great working with James Ford, who we think brought new elements to our music. Our demos are sometimes quite complicated, and James dared to make us a little more minimal at times – but the string arrangements are also very beautiful. Some songs are heartbreaking, but we hope many are also uplifting. It’s a record we’re very proud of.

IRON & WINE – “Light Verse”
[Sub Pop]
folk

“Light Verse” comes out on April 26th on Sub Pop produced by the same Beam and enriched by the presence of colleagues and friends such as the keyboard player Tyler Chesterthe bass player Sebastian Steinbergthe guitarist David Garzathe violinist Paul Cartwright and the percussionists Griffin Goldsmith, Beth Goodfellow And Kyle Crane. Fiona Apple instead he sings in “All In Good Time”.

FAT WHITE FAMILY – “Forgiveness Is Yours”
[Domino]
alt-rock, post-punk

The eleven tracks that make up this new effort by Fat White Family they present themselves as a tirade on the state of the nation, a bulletin of indignation that tells of times that are spinning in vain, but fortunately, despite all the suffering of its creators (the founding member Saul Adamczewski definitively and acrimoniously left the band during recording), “Forgiveness Is Yours” is an embarrassing delight.

OWEN – “The Falls Of Sioux”
[Polyvinyl Record Co.]
songwriting

Tireless Mike Kinsella that after American Football hey LIES with his cousin Natenow returns to his fabulous solo project Owen. “The Falls Of Sioux” was co-produced by Sean Carey And Zach Hansonand sees the participation of KC Dalager of the Now, Now. Russell Durham composed the string arrangements, Corey Bracken of the touring band of American Football played synthesizers and other friends guested on the LP.

SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE – “Time Is Glass”
[Drag City]
psych folk

21st studio work for the American guitarist’s alt-folk project Ben Chasny which once again showcases the intricate tangle of fingers on the keyboard and the flash of lens flare piercing the air, as the future arches 360 degrees to also become part of the past. The oscillations in this glass bowl propagate eternally outward, but are rooted in the ground where all creatures move and communicate, even humans. An intimate cosmic expression, to be filed under the heading: rural-industrial psych, ecosystem goth.

HOVVDY – “Hovvdy”
[Arts & Crafts]
alt-rock

Fifth LP – a double – which arrives two and a half years after the release of the previous one, “True Love”: the group based in Austin co-produced it together with Andrew Sarlo And Bennett Littlejohn.

GREG SAUNIER – “We Sang, Therefore We Were”
[Joyful Noise]
alt-rock

The drummer of Deerhoff, with the blessing of the other members who encouraged him in this new adventure, he makes his solo debut with an album of honest avant-rock which inevitably recalls the sounds of his band.

ADULT JAZZ – “So Sorry So Slow”
[Spare Thought]
alt-rock

The band born at Leeds University arrives at its new job. “So Sorry So Slow” is deeply personal, bruised and candid in its expressions of tenderness, and profoundly painful in its concomitant reflections of ecological regret. In an hour’s duration, a delicate, frenetic energy and an icy heaviness coexist, which the band contrasts with each other. In their richly experimental timbre, dancing strings and fluttering falsettos prance against a bed of brass drones like a wounded bird.

LAUFEY – “Bewitched: The Goddess Edition”
[AWAL]
singer-songwriter, piano

The Icelandic singer, pianist and cellist of Chinese origins on her second studio album.

BULLION – “Affection”
[Ghostly International]

Panda Bear, Carly Rae Jepsen, Charlotte Adigéryin the new album by the British producer, singer, composer Nathan Jenkins aka Bullion.
