“I will tell the plot of the fourth film only if the saga is cancelled”

The director and producer of the sci-fi franchise will not reveal the plot of the next chapter first unless everything is cancelled.

James Cameron has already decided: if the Avatar saga were to be canceled in the future, he will organize a press conference in which he will publicly reveal the Avatar 4 plot. The future of the franchise depends on the financial success of the film.

However, even if the project is interrupted, Cameron promised fans that he will give closure to the story that began in the first blockbuster in 2009 which became a huge success all over the world, continued with 2022 sequel and the third film currently in theaters.

James Cameron’s decision

“I don’t know if the saga will go beyond this point” the director confessed “I hope so. But every time we go out we demonstrate economic sustainability… If for any reason we can’t make 4 and 5 happen, I’ll hold a press conference and tell you what we were planning to do. What do you think?”.

Cameron would even like it write novels to delve deeper into the dynamics and stories of Avatar: “There’s so much culture and backstory and secondary detail in these characters that have been developed. I’d love to do something that gets to that level of minute detail. But there’s no business model for that anymore. People don’t read. However, it might be helpful to have canonical documentation of everything that was meant to be.”.

Currently, Avatar 4 is scheduled to hit theaters in 2029.
