According to a new study, the core audience of Star Wars he was born in Marvel Cinematic Universe they are much more different than one might expect, separated both in terms of age and gender.

The Wrap recently examined more closely the demographic data of the two very famous Disney franchises, developed by Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios, examining only the main media (i.e. films and TV series, therefore no comics, video games or anything else): it turns out that, apparently, Star Wars fans are much older and ‘male’ compared to those in the Marvel Cinematic Universehaving a “male share of 70% or more of its total audience“; furthermore, also due to the fact that the first Star Wars film dates back to 1977, the franchise created by George Lucas has a much older percentage of the audience than Marvel’s, with over 60% of Star Wars fans who are 30 years old or older.

Beyond these numbers, however, there are perhaps two most interesting data points that emerged from the study: first of all, that a female protagonist does not mathematically attract new viewers (the examples of Echo are given, a Marvel series whose audience was 80% male, but also of Ashoka, which had a lower female audience than that of The Mandalorian), the other instead suggests that Star Wars has a much harder time attracting a young audience than Marvelgiven that his new titles – except perhaps for the new TV series The Acolyte – remain largely connected to works published decades ago.
