Pixar is back, and with it also the great American cinematic summer: with Thursday afternoon’s previews came confirmation that Inside Out 2 it will be a box office success, well above the wildest expectations.
The long-awaited sequel has in fact grossed 13 million dollars in previews (which began at 3 in the afternoon), obtaining the best result of 2024 so far (Dunes 2 had made 12 million). An extremely encouraging figure which leads to raising the forecasts for the weekend’s takings. The tracking of the last few weeks was in fact pointing to an 80 million dollar debut in three days, but in the last few days (also thanks to the decidedly positive reviews) it had become clear that the figure would be higher. Making a comparison, Toy Story 4 It achieved previews of 12 million and closed its first weekend with 120 million dollars: maybe there won’t be a similar explosion, but it is absolutely possible that it will exceed 100 million dollars. Pixar holds the historical record for previews The Incredibles 2which grossed $18.5 million and closed its first weekend at $182.7 million.
The international launch of the film has also started: so far it has raised around 22 million dollars around the world (it will be released in Italy next week). Even in this case, it seems clear that the global debut of 135 predicted in recent weeks will be widely exceeded.
