5 strictly trashy films from the past that are still gold today

Although – in some cases – several years have passed, these five films are still perfectly enjoyable and representative of a genre that has carved out a role of primary importance for itself over time. We’re talking about trashy which among YouTubers, memes and, in general, the internet, is experiencing a true golden age.

Sharknado

The first one that comes to mind is Sharknado, the one that probably sparked the spark in fans love for the trash genre. The progenitor of a saga that ended in 2018 and was made up of six feature films, the film debuted in 2013 and winks at disaster films, mixing some elements, we would say… bizarre. Who knows what must have driven its creator to want to represent a tornado of sharks! There will be no shortage of magical moments that we won’t reveal to you: we’ll just give you a hint: chainsaw. The rest is history!

Never say ninja

Despite a very respectable cast made up, among others, of Robin Shou and Chris Rock, we cannot fail to include Mai dire ninja in this selection. Leaving aside the Italianization of the title, which clearly refers to the television schedule of those years, the plot of the film, in some ways, reminiscent of Panda Dreamworks adventures. We won’t reveal any other details about truly hilarious writing, peppered with trashy moments that we never get tired of enjoying again.

Alex the ram

Take Alberto Tomba – recently retired from his skiing career and still at the top of his fame – and a very young Michelle Hunziker at her debut, mix it all with a horrifying plot and screenplay and you will get one of the best exponents of the Italian trash genre. Despite the huge flop at the box office, the film has gained well-deserved fame over the years thanks to the internet. Yet behind the camera there was none other than Damiano Damiani, one of the best directors of the detective genre. But this time it went bad… or good, depending on your point of view!

The puma man

Let’s stay in the country for another Italian film, as well as a great representative of the trash genre. 1980 film directed by Alberto De Martino, we could define it as a precursor of the cinecomic genre. The superhero protagonist of this pearl is a man capable of flying and using super strength. What makes this film truly exhilarating are the really poor special effects, which offer much more than a few epic moments to the brave people who want to sit through the 96 minutes of this film.

Kung Fury

We conclude this five with a medium-length film which, unlike the others, is deliberately trashy. Kung Fury is a project that we have repeatedly defined as “the Fourth Estate of the trash genre”, a concentration of 80s clichés, unlikely time travel, Nazism, dinosaurs, Vikings and surreal fights. In short, everything a lover of the genre could ever want is here, contained in 31 intense minutes.

On The Knights of the Zodiac – Part 2 -(4 Bd) It is one of today’s best sellers.
