Inside Out 2 director Kelsey Mann had to give up several ideas for the sequel but which he would like to retract in a possible third film.

The debut of Inside Out 2 at the cinema is scheduled for June 19, 2024but the director Kelsey Mann would already have some ideas about a third chapter which to date has not yet been announced. Nine years have passed since the first film about Riley’s emotions arrived at the cinema, also conquering a Oscar Prize in the category of best animated film. This time, in addition to Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear and DisgustRiley will have to deal with a group of new emotions led by Anxietyan unpredictable leader who will greatly influence Riley’s choices in the pre-adolescent phase.

Inside Out 2, the director would like to make a third film with the emotions discarded

Kelsey Mann has never made any bones about it copious number of emotions that he wanted to include in Inside Out 2. But for the story to work, he had to sacrifice some and reduce the number. Those discarded emotions, however, continue to fascinate him and, indeed, they could even find a space of their own in a next chapter of Inside Out. The director hopes so, of course, also because deciding to exclude those emotions from the general framework of Inside Out 2 was complicated . Give them a second chance at Inside Out 3 this is what Mann wanted, who at the microphones of ComicBook revealed that he had already thought about how to possibly set up a third film:

I love this world, it’s a fantastic world where you can indulge yourself, ideas come to mind simply because you let yourself be influenced by the locations and characters. There are so many ideas not only from the first film, but especially from the second. I often think, ‘That’s a really fun and clever idea. I don’t know how to fit it into this particular story, but it should be used at some point.’ One of my favorites is a location we came up with called Procrastination Land. This is a land that is very familiar to me, especially as a teenager. There was this big sign that said Land of Procrastination and then added ‘Coming Soon’.

Unfortunately Mann didn’t find a way to insert the Land of Procrastination in the second chapter of Inside Out but, should there be a third film, he wouldn’t mind delving into the matter further. “We had a hard time figuring out how to fit it into this story, but there are so many other fun things. So I thought this should be used somehow in the future”.
