Among the winners of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival there is also a new body-horror that terrorized the Croisette and that all Italian fans of horror cinema would do well to keep an eye on, given that it will soon arrive in our market thanks to The Wonder Pictures.
We’re talking about The Substancea new visionary horror-tinged story written and directed by Coralie Fargeat, the director of the acclaimed action Revenge and also seen at work in the first season of the Netflix TV series The Sandman: the film, which won the award for Best Screenplay, starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid and tells the story of a new ‘product’, called “The Substance”, capable of gendering ‘twice’ the size of those who use it, a younger, more beautiful and more perfect version of the original, with one rule: the two versions of the same person will have to share time, ‘living’ a week each and maintaining perfect balance.
In accepting the award, director and screenwriter Coralie Fargeat thanked Demi Moore, who makes her great return to the stage with a bold and generous performance in which she puts her all: “What an opportunity it was to work with you, thank you for trusting me. This film is about women, about the experience of women in the world and the violence they are subjected to. I believe that films can change the world and I hope that my film is a small step. We need a revolution and I hope we can start it together“.
