The reboot of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga is currently in the works at Disney, but waiting to see if Johnny Depp will return in some way in these hours new rumors have emerged about the next protagonist.
According to the famous insider and journalist Jeff Sneider, usually a harbinger of behind-the-scenes previews destined to come true, Disney would like Austin Butler as the new main hero of the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot: for him there is no talk of a new version of Jack Sparrow but of a completely new protagonist, which would obviously leave the door open for the return of Johnny Depp’s famous pirate captain, perhaps in a secondary role or for a simple cameo.
Unfortunately, no further details are currently known, but we know that the film’s screenplay was entrusted to Craig Mazin, co-creator of the acclaimed TV series Chernobyl and The Last Of Us, who is writing the new story alongside Pirates of the Caribbean franchise veteran Ted Elliot. There is still no director connected to this project, which would represent the great return of the saga since 2017, the year of release of the latest episode Dead Men Tell No Tales.
