Comedy at the Italian Film Festival is the new film festival, created in collaboration with heArt Social (a platform created with the aim of bringing out and enhancing artistic talent at 360°, in an open, democratic and free way), born from the desire to give comedy prominence and the cultural dignity it deserves. The organizing committee of the first edition of the Festival, which will be held in Milan, at the Giorgio Gaber Lyric Theatre, on 6, 7, 8 and 9 November 2024, is made up of: Renato Pozzetto, as honorary president; The professor Gianni Canovaas president/general manager; Matteo Forte, as artistic director. The objective of the Festival is twofold: on the one hand it aims to enhance emerging talents – directors, screenwriters and actors – through the collection and evaluation of short films; on the other to create a retrospective – for the first year dedicated to Renato Pozzetto – which involves the viewing of four films by the selected artist preceded and followed by debates and comparisons animated by journalists, directors, critics and actors.

The requirements

The call is open to all those who have a domicile or residential address in Italy. Each author can participate simply by filling out the registration form and loading on

– works created both by individual authors and in collaboration are admitted.
Applications can be sent until September 30th (included).
At the end of the indicated period, the votes of the expert jury and the popular jury will be combined and the finalist short films will be selected, which will be screened during the days of the Festival. The selected shorts, and their authors, will be announced by October 14th.

How to participate

To participate in the tender you must be at least 18 years old and resident or domiciled in Italy. Participants will have to make a short film inspired by the great tradition of Italian comedystaging a story capable of interpreting some aspects of contemporary Italianness in a comic key, freely choosing the register from which to draw inspiration (irony, satire, humour, farce, etc.) and declining it equally freely in the form of fiction, investigation , animation or gag.
The short film must be uploaded to the heArt Social platform respecting the following technical specifications: maximum duration of 10 minutes
.mov/.mp4 format, 1080p resolution (1920×1080 pixels), maximum weight of 200 MB (file compression is recommended), descriptive caption of maximum 1500 characters.
The finalist short films must also be provided in 4K or Ultra HD resolution. The selection of the finalist shorts will be decided by the popular jury and the expert jury. The short films can be seen several times, but can be voted on by each user only once, after registering on the platform, by assigning an approval rating expressed in “hearts” from 1 to 5.
To collect votes, participants will have a redirect link to their short, which can be shared with friends and acquaintances via other social networks. During the selection period, candidates will be able to consult the official ranking, calculated on the basis of public votes, while those of the expert jury will remain hidden until the selection of the finalists.

The jury

During the first three days of the Festival – 6, 7 and 8 November 2024 – they will come

The prize

The winning short film of the Contest will come screened in Italian cinemas at the opening of a film belonging to the «Italian comedy» genre. The Festival also includes the awarding of three prizes to the best short films in competition: jury prize, audience prize and technical prize
