The first part of Costner’s western tale will have an insane length, which will challenge the viewer’s patience
In a new article on the upcoming theatrical releases, Deadline has revealed in advance the duration of the first part of Horizon: An American Sagathe western epic directed and starring Kevin Costner and it looks like it will test the audience’s patience.
What is Horizon about?
The saga, according to what was revealed on the Cannes Film Festival website, where the first two parts will be screened, it will consist of 4 parts that will be distributed over the course of several months in theaters and, in addition to the protagonist Kevin Costner, the main performers also include Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Jena Malone.
The actor thus returns to the world of westerns with a story set 15 years before and after the American Civil War, expansion and early settlements in the old west. The events will be told through various perspectives and will follow the obstacles represented by the natural elements, the interactions with the indigenous populations who lived in the area, and the sometimes ruthless determination of those who wanted to live in the new territories.
How long will Part 1 last?
The newspaper specifies that Part 1 of Horizon will last 3 hours. At this point it seems reasonable to expect that the second part of the story will also have a very similar duration, with Costner absolutely intending to complete the saga, having expressed the desire to make Parts 3 and Part 4 already next summer.

A source reportedly told World of Reel that Costner has no intention of waiting to see if the first two films prove to be a success, as he wants to return to southern Utah as early as this summer to film the third and fourth installments. It seems that the agreement has already been reached. Production is expected to continue until December. We are talking about a filming period of six months.
