Red One: the Christmas comedy with The Rock becomes a 250 million nightmare for Amazon | Cinema

You may remember that when the feud broke out between The Rock And Vin Diesel in the saga of Fast & Furiousthe first had accused the interpreter of Dom Doretto of being, essentially, a “prima donna” without any professional seriousness.

Now, however, by a strange twist of fate one might say, too Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson he finds himself at the center of rumors that would portray him in a similar way. All of this comes to us thanks to the substantial report that The Wrap published a little while ago focused on “production disaster” Of Red Onea Christmas comedy starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans produced by Amazon Studios which will be available in American theaters and beyond from November 15, 2024. Which, due to the excesses of The Rockwould have reached and exceeded 250 million dollars in cost.

The constant of delays on set

Initially scheduled for holiday 2023, Red One it was then postponed to 2024 for reasons attributable to the actors’ and screenwriters’ strike.

According to The Wrap, however, the situation would be much more complicated and we’ll see The Rock as the main suspect. A mix of production problems that would range from constant delays and the lack of professionalism of Dwayne Johnson on set to the inexperience of the producers, elements that led the film to have a final budget of over 250 million dollars. A figure that is more cinematic than a Christmas comedy.

A context also exacerbated by the inexperience of the film’s lead producer, Hiram Garcia, and Amazon MGM executive producers, Julie Rapaport and Glenn Gainor, who oversee the project.

Insiders told The Wrap that The Rock used to arrive on set 8 hours behind schedule, forcing the crew to shoot at their own convenience on some days.

Rumors that Amazon and MGM were quick to deny by entrusting the following note to The Wrap:

Dwayne Johnson and Seven Bucks were incredible partners on Red One, a film that audiences of all ages will love this coming holiday season. Our testing has been very positive – the reaction at CinemaCon speaks for itself – and we couldn’t have done it without Dwayne’s constant work and support. Any news that implies we’ve reached this point with him showing up to set seven to eight hours late is both ridiculous and false.

Other insiders interviewed by The Wrap maintain that yes, sometimes The Rock was late to the set, but at most by an hour.

Yet others, however, say that delays and not wanting to work more than 4, 5 hours a day (but perhaps spending 4 in the gym), is a constant of Dwayne Johnson which also occurred during the making of the TV series Ballers and of the monster movie Rampage.

In the midst of this game of accusations and denials, the only thing that is certain is that Amazon finds itself faced with a new problem in terms of PR after the controversy surrounding the streaming release of the film Road House which, despite the complaints by Doug Liman, nevertheless achieved considerable success on Prime Video.
