As we revealed to you this morning, an important new test screening of Gladiator 2 was held last night in Las Vega, which revealed important news about the plot of the film directed by Ridley Scott.
Apparently, in fact, Paul Mescal will not play Lucius Verus in the sequel to Gladiator: for months, if not years, the new protagonist of the film had been associated with the nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), but according to those who have seen the new chapter there is no relationship between Paul Mescal’s character and the previous Emperor’s daughter.
Instead, the protagonist of Gladiator 2 is a noble worker from Rome (again played by Paul Mescal) who is also the protégé of the character played by Pedro Pascal, the stepfather of the young hero at the center of the story. One day the protagonist’s wife and mother are killed, he goes to Rome in search of revenge and will have to fight to get to the top of the capital’s food chain. The bad guy is Denzel Washington, described as the puppeteer. Other reactions speak of an excellent performance by the entire cast, especially Washington and Connie Nielsen, who reprises her role as Lucilla from the original film, but also Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger.
