Was it set intentionally? Or did the fire on that plot of land reach us due to an adjacent brush fire? These are the questions, still unanswered, that the police at the San Giovanni Gemini station are asking themselves. About 100 olive trees owned by a twenty-nine-year-old worker were completely destroyed by the flames.

The fire broke out in the Melaco district of San Giovanni Gemini on Sunday mid-morning. Once the alarm was raised, the Mussomeli firefighters and the police rushed to the scene. The first ones limited and put out the high flames, but for the olive trees – about 100 in fact – there was absolutely nothing that could be done: they were destroyed, completely incinerated. Luckily there were no injuries.

The carabinieri notified the public prosecutor’s office of Agrigento and started investigations. The causes, at least until yesterday, were believed to be “still under investigation”.
