While it has recently arrived on Netflix the film Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scarmaker (review here), second chapter of his science fiction saga, the director Zack Snyder has now shared a first official look at his next project: the Norse mythology animated series titled Twilight of the Gods. First announced in 2019, the series took a while to get to the screen, but it will finally debut on Netflix next fall, as confirmed by Snyder.

The project was described as “influenced by Anime“, but judging by this image, we’d say the animation style is more similar to that of the Oscar-nominated Cartoon Saloon studio, which developed the Irish feature films The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, The Breadwinner And Wolfwalkers. Plot details are still mostly under wraps, but Snyder gave an idea of what to expect during an interview with Collider late last year.

There is a king and his queen in a small Viking village and they want to get married. During the wedding an event occurs that pushes Sigrid, the future bride, daughter of giants, to undertake a crazy mission of revenge. He enlists a cast of characters – a seer, a dwarf – and they band together to form a group with the sole mission of finding a god and fighting him. It’s a mission, a story of revenge“. On that occasion Snyder also added that the series will contain “a lot of sex […] because it is fun“.
