The success of Perfect Blue at the Italian box office continues unstoppable and, surprisingly, those who pay the price are none other than Luca Guadagnino And Zendayajust arrived in our theaters with the new film Challengers.

Incredibly, Satoshi Kon’s animated masterpiece, originally released in the 90s but arriving in Italy for the first time only in recent days thanks to a special distribution-event organized by Nexo Digital, managed to maintain first place in the rankings for all three of its programming days, i.e. 22, 23 and 24 April: specifically, yesterday Perfect Blue remained ahead of Challengersgrossing another 206,417 euros and bringing it to a total of 468,242 euros in three days and with an excellent average/cinema of 1,098 euros (also thanks to a higher average ticket price, being an event).

As mentioned, Challengers by Luca Guadagnino debuts second at the Italian box office: the film with Zendaya, which was released yesterday 24 April, started with 198,955 euros and an average of 424 euros per cinema, however recording the absolute record in terms of attendance: 27,174 against 21,848 for the Japanese anime. Guadagnino’s previous film, Bones and All with Timothée Chalamet, on November 23, 2021 it made its debut with 95,187 euros, to close with a total of 1.3 million euros in a market still very limping due to the covid-19 pandemic. Challengers should do much better, but for Guadagnino the absolute record remains Melissa P.which debuted in 2005 with a whopping 6 million euros.

In the meantime, Challengers will debut at the top of the US box office, relegating Alex Garland’s Civil War to second place, now in its third week of programming.
