During an episode of the Howard Stern Show, Jake Gyllenhaal had spoken of his friendship with Robert Downey Jr. born on the set of a great David Fincher film, that is Zodiac. At the time, Robert Downey Jr. was still struggling to find roles due to his problems with alcohol and drugs, yet he was already a source of inspiration for Gyllenhaal.
In fact, he has always looked at Robert Downey Jr.’s work with admiration, both on set and then at the cinema, for the speed at which he works. “I remember him teaching me how to memorize his lines.” Jake Gyllenhaal said “and he explained his technique to me because I was struggling with my dialogues. He learns them so quickly so that he doesn’t really think about it while he’s doing it: his method is musical”.
“That’s because your conscious brain isn’t connected to the words you’re saying when you’re going fast, then when you slow down you can add music to it, because you don’t have to think about what the next word you have to say is, you don’t have to think about punctuation, it’s like You could make it yourself.
