Civil War had a very large production budget, at least by A24 standards. But the production company’s bet, for now, seems to be a winner.
The film of Alex Garland is expected to gross about $11.1 million from ticket sales in the United States and Canada through Sunday, for a total domestic gross of about $44.9 million, according to Comscore. Civil War maintains the top spot at the box office in the United States but also in Italy, where it could be undermined by the release of Challengers by Luca Guadagnino, precisely from April 24th onwards.
Given the film’s production budget, Civil War should reach a overall gain of 100 million dollars to be considered a complete success. But what do the forecasts say? Given the second-week drop of close to 50%, as previously predicted, and if this trend continues throughout its theatrical run, Civil War is likely to end up with a total worldwide gross of between $80 and $100 million. A great result, but very far from the greatest success of A24or the Oscar-winning film Everything everywhere all at once, which grossed a whopping $140 million worldwide on a budget of “just” $25 million.
