During a new promotional interview, director Zack Snyder returned to talk about the Rebel Moon saga, focusing specifically on the future Rebel Moon: Part 3 and on the so-called Snyder Cut of Part 1 and Part 2.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder said: “The story of the third film is about tracking down Princess Issa and discover how the rebels can use the victory at Veldt to create a coalition of planets that can help them in the war, planets that may have been on the brink of rebellion but have so far held back out of fear and that could be inspired by the example of Kora and his allies. The universe realizes that perhaps there is a chance of victory against the Mother World, perhaps there is a chink in their armor. This will be the gist of the next film.”
First, however, we will need to move on from the Snyder Cuts of Rebel Moon 1 and 2, regarding which the author added: “The director’s cuts are the definitive version of the alternate universe of these films. I am what I wrote. They’re much more mythological and much stranger tonally, and much more reflective of the deconstructivist quality of the sci-fi universe I intended to create. My goal was to achieve a film that was much more like Heavy Metal magazine than Star Wars, much more irreverent than reverent towards science fiction. The PG-13 version is much more serious. It’s strangely serious because you don’t have over the top sex and violence to give that Heavy Metal tone. The director’s cuts are both three hours long and they have tons of scenes you haven’t seen, tons of crazy stuff and of course a rated-R rating that says this is no joke.”
