“Whoever put happiness into circulation knew that it wasn’t a lottery win. They are moments, days, years, handshakes, goodbyes, second thoughts. A wonderful blender.” Renato Zero tells his story to Republicwith a new album, “Autoritratto”, and a new tour that will take him around Italy.
The singer-songwriter talks about the relationship with his audience, which gives him the strength to move forward.
“The fact that he chose me after such a long militancy reassures me that I deserved his affection. On the one hand it’s like having received an Oscar, on the other I almost feel the obligation to maintain the status.”
And thanks to his audience, Zero continues, he will continue to remain single, not to become just one person.
“If I had to fill the bed square, I would have limited myself. I feel altruistic if I can shoot my arrows towards someone’s happiness. When I come across a happy couple or family, I remember my own.”
The artist also talks about the relationship with power.
“Power equals loneliness. It should be given in reasonable quantities. Culture is power, if culture becomes questionable, the imbalances appear evident. If I didn’t have a presence I wouldn’t go on stage, a depressed artist is a bad example and causes damage.”
And has he ever been depressed?
“Depressed no, but a little discouraged towards certain situations, yes”.
The singer-songwriter states that he is not afraid of the passing years:
“I don’t let myself be denied anything that is emotional supply. It would have been horrifying if I had stayed in the hammock swinging. The fact that I spent myself in human relationships, with friends, my brothers, does not make me doubt the goodness of the time spent.”
