Netflix continues to demonstrate that it has a particular talent for releasing very expensive films that are destined to explode for a few weeks and then quickly fade from the collective memory. Yet, in 2025, one of these seemingly “forgettable” titles achieved an impressive result.
Back in Actionpanned by critics and received coldly by professionals, managed to gain over 160 million views in the first months of its stay on the platform, becoming one of the most viewed films of the year in streaming. Despite unflattering reviews and an overall negative opinion from the specialized press, the public responded in a decidedly different way. The reason for this success is quite evident and has a precise name: Cameron Diaz. After eleven years of absence from the scene, the actress returned in front of the camera with this film, marking a return that inevitably attracted the curiosity of millions of spectators. Back in Action also represents a reunion with Jamie Foxx, who had already shared the set with Diaz in 2014 in Annie, the actress’s last film before her long retirement. It was Foxx himself who convinced her to return, focusing on a light and fun project, designed more for entertainment than to leave a mark in the history of cinema.
The plot follows the events of a couple former CIA agents who, after a mission gone wrong and a betrayal that was never clarified, decides to disappear and build a new life. Years later, the two are married and have children, but the past comes knocking on the door again when a dangerous enemy re-emerges, forcing them to go back into action. From here, a classic action comedy takes shape, made up of chases, jokes and twists, built around the charm of Cameron Diaz’s return.
The supporting cast helps make the project even more interesting, with the presence of familiar faces such as Andrew ScottKyle Chandler and Glenn Close, the latter playing a surprising and lethal mother with a past in the secret service. All elements that, on paper, work perfectly for the streaming audience. Beyond the critical opinions, the numbers speak clearly: Back in Action it was one of the most watched films ever in 2025.
They are Christmas Holidays It is one of today’s best sellers.
