GROSSETO – LSD, methamphetamines, cocaine, hashish, marijuana, ecstasy but also semi-automatic pistols, ammunition and silencers: these are just some of the products that the Guardia di Finanza of the Provincial Command of Grosseto, after careful monitoring of the web, found for sale through a Telegram channel, active in Follonica, which had over 2,700 members.
Increasingly, in fact, malicious people, mistakenly believing they can act without leaving a trace, use IT platforms to perpetrate illicit trafficking. The action of the Fiamme Gialle is aimed at nipping such phenomena in the bud, which are particularly insidious especially for the youngest, who now only need a common smartphone to access the multitude of content present on the net, even the most harmful ones.
Specifically, the soldiers of the Follonica Company, following the widespread economic control of the territory, also carried out assiduously on the web, have identified a real online market of illegality, reachable through the well-known instant messaging application, which allowed a vast virtual catalog complete with prices, images and demonstration videos of the products on the market. The digital store also advertised temporary promotions and provided continuous updates on the availability of goods.
The channel, opened in July last year, was active 7 days a week and promised 24-hour deliveries throughout Italy, in the city of Follonica even within 25 minutes of completing the order. Payments to be made strictly via cryptocurrencies or playing cards to promote anonymity and limit the traceability of movements.
As a result of the judicial police investigations, also completed through delicate “technological stalking” activities, the Telegram channel that came under the scrutiny of the Fiamme Gialle was subjected to seizure upon order of the GIP at the Court of Grosseto, so as to avoid the perpetrate dangerous illegal activity.
The intervention is part of the broader device to combat illicit trafficking implemented by the Corps Departments coordinated by the Provincial Command of Grosseto. In this context, the Guardia di Finanza constitutes a visible garrison of public order and safety even in the delicate sector of the virtual world, the almost exclusive prerogative of the new generations.
