CATANIA, 01 JUL – From tomorrow the mechanical biological treatment plant for undifferentiated waste collection at the Sicula Trasporti landfill in the Coda volpe district in Lentini will be closed again, and the waste emergency will once again arise for 200 municipalities in Sicily, including Catania. The judicial administrators of the structure explain that after having restarted the Tmb plant on 26 June, in application of a provision from the president of the Sicilian Region, who is also commissioner for the waste emergency on the island, it received the availability to transfer and the start of approval procedures by only two of the four landfill management companies cited by the Ordinance, Impianti Srr Ato 4 of Caltanissetta and Catanzaro Costruzioni. “In consideration of this and the consequent saturation of the spaces available for the storage of the filmed bales of waste Eer 191212 – write the judicial administrators of Sicula Trasporti – the undersigned company will not be able to physically continue the treatment activity, and therefore reception, beyond on 2 July 2024, reserving the right to limit deliveries as early as 1 July if the safety conditions of the delivery area require it. We urgently request – concludes the document – an inspection visit in order to verify what has been stated by the local control bodies: Arpa Sicilia, Arpa Uos Productive Activities Catania, provincial fire brigade command and ASP of Catania”.
