Promoted with flying colors. The Mis and Santa Croce lakes brilliantly passed the water quality test again this year. Legambiente volunteers analyzed 3 points in the Belluno lakes of Mis and Santa Croce. Specifically, for the Santa Croce lake, the area was sampled kite surfing, in Farra D’Alpago, and the boat ramp in the Poiatte area, both in Alpago (BL). These two points, subjected to evaluation since 2020, have always shown results with concentrations of Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci lower than the legal limits and therefore, from this point of view, they do not present critical issues. In Lake Mis, a point was analyzed near the rest area in Valle del Mis, in the municipality of Sospirolo (BL). Even in this case, the point does not present problems: it has in fact been sampled since 2021 and the values of the concentrations of intestinal Escherichia coli and enterococci have always been found to be lower than the legal limits.
Presenting the results of the sampling carried out on June 12, the spokesperson for Legambiente’s Goletta dei Laghi 2024 campaign, Mirko Laurenti, underlined that «With Goletta dei Laghi, scientific method and social value meet, because the data collected on the state of health of the main Italian lake basins contribute to creating knowledge and information among citizens, so that they become custodians of the natural places they visit for recreational and tourist reasons. With Goletta we do not only find lakes affected by critical issues but also, as in the case of the Mis and Santa Croce basins, bodies of water characterized by good water conditions. The overall good performance of the two Belluno lakes is an example to highlight and on which to build a network of opportunities, first and foremost that of seeking a balance between development and the environment».
Confirmation of the prestigious recognition of the 5 Sails of Legambiente and Touring Club Italiano, a banner of sustainability and environmental quality, also arrives for 2024. Luigi Lazzaro, President of Legambiente Veneto commented: «The Mis and Santa Croce Lakes – comments – have been a reference model for lake tourism in the entire Veneto region for years, demonstrating how it is possible to combine tourism development and environmental protection in areas of high naturalistic value. This renewed recognition rewards the constant commitment of local administrations, tourism operators and communities to protect and enhance these precious ecosystems. A commitment that translates into concrete actions in favor of water quality, sustainable management of the territory, promotion of tourism that is increasingly respectful of the environment and local traditions. A result possible thanks to the Municipalities of Alpago and Sospirolo and, for Lake Mis, the Ente Parco Nazionale delle Dolomiti Bellunesi, which have been practicing, for some time and consistently, policies and actions aimed at encouraging conscious tourism of quality and low environmental impact».
