“Signing for the 8xmille to the Catholic Church is part of a synodal style that calls for communion, participation and mission. Every year the Italian Church donates sums to the ‘Pope’s Charity’, which supports the poor in the world”. Words of Bishop Livio Coraza who adds: “I have just been in Armenia and Georgia, without the support of the ‘Vatican’ they would not make it alone”. The campaign for the 8 per thousand Irpef to the Catholic Church is in full swing.

The Diocesan Service for the Promotion of Economic Support for the Church announces that in 2023 the Diocese of Forlì-Bertinoro received a total of 3,308,249.89 euros. 566,144.05 euros stand out, which, under the heading “Charitable Interventions”, were used for the works of the Diocesan Caritas and other charitable organizations in favor of disadvantaged families and economically vulnerable categories, the homeless, immigrants, etc. Another 594,973.84 euros, relating to “Needs of Worship and Pastoral”, were allocated to all diocesan pastoral activities, initiatives for the care of souls, catechesis and Christian education that are part of the Church’s task of evangelization. This amount also includes some expenses for the maintenance of religious buildings, including the Cathedral.

1,035,495.00 euros went to the “Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage and Cult Buildings”, thanks to which ecclesiastical assets were restored, in particular for parish premises in San Varano and for the start of construction of the new Romiti church. Finally, the sum of 1,111,637.00 euros went towards the support of approximately 85 priests, an amount which also includes proceeds derived from other forms of financing.

“Signing for the 8xmille to the Catholic Church – the diocesan treasurer Claudio Leonessi declared to the periodical Il Momento – is a voluntary act that costs nothing and generates funds, which are used in the territory for the benefit of everyone and specifically young people, the elderly, people, families in economic difficulty and the marginalized”.

“In the year 2023 alone – is the CEI’s promotion – the signature for the Catholic Church in the tax return, has allowed the allocation of over 243 million euros for charitable interventions, of which 15 destined to the dioceses for charity, 13 to needs of national importance of which about half destined to Caritas Italiana and 80 to interventions in favor of the poorest countries. Alongside these items, there are 403 million euros for the support of over 32 thousand priests, who spend themselves in favor of the communities and who are often the first drivers of the works to support the most fragile”.

“I remember – concludes Bishop Livio Corazza – that as far as financial support is concerned, everything is entrusted to the generosity of people: many, even non-believers, have faith in the ecclesial activity, both in the educational field and in favor of the poor”.
