City of Brescia Trophy: lights on the Castle for a special night

Final details for the 61st edition of City of Brescia trophy by Guizzi which will start tomorrow from the Castle of Brescia at 20.15. The classic night race born in 1963 and which since 1997 has been led by a group of friends and supporters led by Fermo Fiori and the sports group specifically dedicated to this race, continues to maintain its charm unchanged. What has changed is cycling, which no longer has a clear distinction between amateur riders, to whom this competition was addressed, and professional riders.

Thus, upon invitation, Italian amateur teams Under 23 and Elite, Continental teams (a category in the middle between professionals and amateurs) and Professional teams, i.e. full-fledged professionals, can participate in the starting line of this international classified race.

In everything There are 175 athletes at the start with a large foreign representation without forgetting our home teams, namely the three Brescia teams such as Biesse Carrera and Rime Drali in the Continental category and Delio Gallina Lucchini Ecotek, the only one to have two recent successes under this name at the Città di Brescia, with Bresciani in 2016 and Shumov the following year.

Speaking of foreigners, there are six winners in the roll of honor, in this case: Marco Vitali (Switzerland) in 1980; his brother Sandro eight years later; the Austrian Gerrit Glomser in 1997; the German Markus Knopfle in 2001. They all established themselves at the finish line on Via Dei Mille. In 2013 and 2017, however, Ivan Balykin and Nikolai Shuomov won on the most evocative finish line in the Castle.

Among the 175 starters is also last year’s winner, Federico Guzzo which however has changed sides, from Zalf Fior to Trevigiani Energiapura which also includes another winner of the city of Brescia, Matteo Zurlo. This team also features the outgoing Italian champion of the under 23 category Edoardo Zamperini. Also lined up is Riccardo Perani from Brescia, particularly excited by the idea of ​​racing at home. Among the Brescians at the start, there is a lot of curiosity to see the first year under 23 Davide Donati from Biesse Carrera, winner of this year’s Liberazione trophy, in action.

Everything is ready for the race which will take place on the usual track of the city ring closed to traffic for a few hours, with twenty-one laps with as many ascents of the Castle for a total of 121 km.
