The Trapani cemetery has resumed regular burial operations for the 43 waiting bodies, avoiding the risk of the coffins “exploding” due to the intense heat. The early return of the undertaker, the only one in the municipality, was necessary after a recent accident in the mortuary, where a body spilled decomposition fluids, forcing the temporary closure of the facility.

The councilor for Cemetery Services, Giuseppe La Porta, assured that the hiring of a second undertaker is expected in October. In the meantime, some inconveniences related to a failure of the water motor have been resolved, thanks to the timely intervention of the cemetery staff.

The cemetery has recently benefited from cleaning and maintenance interventions, aimed at improving the decor and functionality of the structure. Cypress trees, capers, fig trees and shrubs have been removed from the roofs of the mortuary dovecotes, and the taps have been replaced to avoid wasting water. In addition, the purchase of a second motor for the water system and new mobile aluminum ladders is planned, to ensure the safety of visitors.

Councilor La Porta underlined the municipal administration’s commitment to improving the accessibility and usability of the cemetery, investing in interventions aimed at resolving the problems that have emerged and guaranteeing an efficient service to citizens.
