THE PORTRAIT

Roberto Grasso was a highly esteemed officer at Comani in Latina. He had in fact served at the military airport for a long time years ago, also holding positions of responsibility. In Latina he had started as an air traffic controller: his first assignment had in fact been that of head of the air traffic section. He had commanded the airport’s logistical and technical services about twenty years ago, then his career had continued abroad and in the capital. He was currently serving at the General Staff in Rome and took the train from Priverno to go to work. Even the trips were an opportunity to meet various commuting colleagues, and of course an opportunity to say goodbye with affection. “He had made a career but he remained an easy-going person,” says a soldier at Comani. “He was appreciated by everyone and now that he has left us all his colleagues praise his kindness and availability. He was truly a good person, with sound principles and solid values, and not just in a manner of speaking. He adored his family: he had a wife and a son and was very fond of his two granddaughters. He was one step away from retirement, he really had just a few years left to devote himself completely to his family. Learning of his death was a blow for all of us who love him.”
