Sicily allocates €11 million to diversify in agriculture

Sicily allocates 11 million – The Sicilian Region has made available a fund of over 11 million euros to encourage agricultural businesses to invest in the diversification of their activities. This initiative is part of a call for proposals published by the Regional Department of Agriculture, financed with funds from the Complement for Rural Development of the Sicilian Region, as part of the Strategic Plan CAP 2023-2027.

The resources will be used to support companies that wish to launch agritourism initiatives, social agriculture, educational and teaching activities, as well as the processing and marketing of agricultural products in company sales points.

The President of the Region, Renato Schifani, expressed his support for these initiatives, underlining the importance of exploiting the great potential of Sicily’s rural areas. These activities will not only create new job opportunities, but will also contribute to relaunching the economy of the internal areas of Sicily.

The call is aimed at agricultural entrepreneurs, both individual and associated, with the exception of those who exclusively carry out forestry and aquaculture activities. Selected projects will receive capital support of up to 65 percent. Applications can be submitted from July 25th to November 13th 2024.

The financial allocation of the tender could be further increased with the addition of additional resources, demonstrating the Sicilian Region’s commitment to supporting growth and innovation in the agricultural sector. This initiative represents an important step towards the creation of a more sustainable and resilient agriculture in Sicily.
