Biniam Girmay (Intemarché-Wanty) wins the third stage of the Tour de France in Turin, in a sprint characterized by a bad fall in the final that cut out, among others, Jasper Philipsen. Second position for Fernando Gaviria (Movistar), third the Belgian champion Arnaud De Lie (Lotto-Dstny), then Mads Pedersen (Lidl Trek) e Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco-AlUla), while Davide Ballerini (eighth) is the best of the Italians. For the placings, meanwhile, Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) is the new yellow jersey of this Tour de France.

LAST KILOMETER!

17.02 (-3 km): We have entered the last 5 kilometers, so from now on neutralization is expected in case of a fall or mechanical problem. The yellow jersey Tadej Pogacar loses positions, while Carapaz seems to want to sprint.

17.00 (-5 km): Mechanical problem for Mathieu Van der Poel! The world champion is forced to stop. Bad news for Jasper Philipsen, who will probably have to do without a last exceptional man. Meanwhile, Bruno Armirail falls, but restarts without problems.

16.55 (-10 km): Casper Pedersen starts again, but still seems quite dazed. The speed in the group increases further, with Pogacar and Vingegaard also in the front positions.

16.52 (-12 km): Crash in the peloton! Casper Pedersen of Soudal Quick-Step is down, the Dane seems to be in quite some pain.

16.50 (-14 km): The fight for positions has begun and the group now occupies the entire road surface. Also seen in the top positions are Arnaud De Lie and Dylan Groenewegen, national champions of Belgium and Holland respectively.

16.45 (-18 km): We remind you that today, for the first time, neutralization in case of a fall or mechanical problem will be applied in the last 5 kilometers, and no longer only in the last 3.

16.40 (-23 km): Grellier caught, compact group as we approach the grand finale of this third stage. Also ahead is Alpecin-Deceuninck for Jasper Philipsen.

16.30 (-31 km): The group seems to want to keep Grellier at around 15 seconds, with the Lidl-Trek and Jayco-AlUla men still in front.

16.20 (-40 km): The speed is increasing and the group has gotten very close to Grellier, who maintains an advantage of only 18”.

16.13 (-47 km): The group has definitely increased its speed.

16.00 (-56 km): Grellier has a 48″ lead.

15.51 (-64 km): A brave one! Fabien Grellier of TotalEnergies tries to go away alone.

15.47 (-66 km): Marijn van den Berg, sprinter of EF Education-Easy Post, cannot play his cards today. The Dutchman has confided that he will protect Richard Carapaz, who will try to get the best result to take the yellow jersey.

15.42 (-70 km): Little “surprise” at the top of the Barbaresco hill, where a point for the mountain classification was up for grabs: Matteo Sobrero went to challenge Jonas Abrahamsen. At home he wanted to have some fun.

15.40 (-72 km): We are passing by the Sobrero house: who knows how excited the Bora rider was.

Fourth hour of racing at the Tour de France!

15.34 (-75 km): At the intermediate sprint Mads Pedersen is first ahead of Jasper Philipsen and Bryan Coquard. 20 points for the Danish rider from Lidl-Trek.

15.31 (-77 km): We have officially entered the Langhe. What a day for this land of cycling!

15.27 (-80 km): Speaking of sprinters. For this third stage Dylan Groenewegen is wearing a new model of glasses, which hug the nose and are supposed to promote aerodynamics. “I hope this helps me otherwise I will feel like an idiot all day,” joked the Dutchman at the start.

15.18 (-86 km): Mark Cavendish is currently 47″ behind. He went to the team car to get some gel. After two very difficult days, is today for him?

15.15 (-88 km): Still good weather on the roads of the Italian Tour. But this should not make us forget that right here in Piedmont, and even more so in Val d’Aosta, in these hours many people have had to face a flood.

15.10 (-92 km): The last time Tadej Pogacar wore the yellow jersey was almost two years ago, at the start of the Albertville stage, before the crush on Granon. At the 2023 Tour, the Slovenian has never been in the yellow jersey.

15.00 (-99 km): Special days for Italian cycling. But also for a family that is very important for cycling: Ignazio Moser and Cecilia Rodriguez got married. Read our service.

14.55 (-103 km): Jayco-AlUla also has a man at the head of the group setting the pace.

14.48 (-105 km): Roglic was the rider who suffered the most in San Luca yesterday. Here are his words.

14.40 (-113 km): The average speed so far is 39.1 km/h, rather slow.

Third hour of racing at the Tour de France!

14.32 (-118 km): Still a calm situation with a compact group.

14.00 (-139 km): The last finish in Alessandria (where the race will soon pass through) dates back to 1984. Santimaria won that stage of the Giro.

13.52 (-142 km): The peloton is far behind schedule. It will probably finish around 18:00.

13.40 (-153 km): The average speed is only 38.1 km/h.

Second hour of racing!

13.26 (-161 km): Nobody is trying to stick their nose out of the group.

13.14 (-170 km): Davide Ballerini will be part of the Astana-Qazaqstan train today for Mark Cavendish, listen to what he told us, by clicking WHO.

13.03 (-176 km): We recall that Jonas Abrahamsen and Johannes Kulset had attacked, but the two Uno-X riders soon got back up.

12.54 (-181 km): There will probably be no breakaway today.

12.46 (-186 km): The temperature today is more pleasant, around 27°C.

First hour of racing at the Tour de France!

12.37 (-192 km): Today’s favorite is definitely Jasper Philipsen. Who will be able to beat him?

12.31 (197 km): We spoke this morning with Patrick Lefevere by Remco Evenepoel, here’s what he told us.

12.24 (-202 km): Lidl Trek with Declercq and Alpecin-Deceuninck with Diller setting the pace (low).

12.15 (-207 km): Cycle touring pace.

12.05 (-214 km): The two were caught by the group which was now proceeding very slowly.

11.57 (-218 km): Group only 1’20” behind.

11.50 (-221 km): A Uno-X Mobility couple on the attack! They are Jonas Abrahamsen and Johannes Kulset.

11.39:Let’s go!

11.30: The runners head towards kilometre zero.

It will be the longest stage of the Tour de France 2024 that will connect Pleasure a Torino long 230.8 kilometers mainly flat and which will open the doors to sprinters. There are three Mountain Grand Prix: Tortona, Barbaresco and Sommariva Perno. The correspondents of Bicisport are ready to follow this long-awaited third stage, still entirely in Italian territory.
