Conte (M5s) at the Pride Park in Naples: “Egalitarian marriage immediately”

“What was achieved with civil unions was a step forward compared to nothing that existed before, but we want egalitarian marriage immediately.” The president of the M5S said it, Joseph Conteduring his speech at the conference on the rights of the LGBTQ+ community organized at the Pride Park in Napoli. Conte recalled that the M5s was born as a movement “of strong rupture with respect to cultural encrustations of our society. In Italy there is still a problem of failure to adapt the rules, but reaching the goal – he underlined – requires a cultural effort that requires time and energy and that all the healthy components of society converge towards the goal which is the recognition of the rights of the person whoever they are”. The president of the M5s then added: “We must say that it is unthinkable that the Government, the only one of a large European country, has not given its consent at a European level to a declaration to promote European policies in favor of the LGBTQ+ community. It is absurd that there is a reactionary, pigtailed, ignoble attitude. We absolutely must adopt a law in Italy to combat homolesbo-transphobia. In the past legislature we did not succeed, we have already fought a joint battle and we absolutely must recreate the conditions to approve that law”.
