Final day of the tenth edition of the “Brindisi Porta del Salento” Tournament, organized by Robur Brindisi. The final is scheduled for 6 pm: it will be an all-city derby between New Basket Brindisi and Aurora basket Brindisi. This year the location for the closing ceremony will be the PalaZumbo in Via dei Mille due to the unavailability of the usual playing field in Parco Maniglio. At the end of the match, the final party with the parade of the participating teams and the awards ceremony presented by the journalist Mimmo Consales of BrindisiTime.
Also this year the Asd Robur Brindisi wanted to pay homage to the personalities of Brindisi basketball who have left us: prizes are planned in memory of Peppino Todisco, Roberto Buscicchio, Rodolfo Trabacca, Luigi Mellone, Elio Pentassuglia, Gino Maiorano, Claudio Malagoli ( best scorer). This year, in collaboration with Mens Sana Mesagne, an award is established in memory of Angelo Greco, for all basketball professionals and enthusiasts, known as “Angiolone”: it will be awarded to one person (among technicians, managers and operators in the sports world) who have been able to stand out for their perseverance and dedication in favor of others.
Among the winners, as announced, the deputy of Brindisi Mauro D’Attis, vice president of the Anti-Mafia Commission, the police commissioner of Brindisi Giampietro Lionetti. And also Cosimo Corsa, one of the first referees of the A series from Brindisi. The audience will not be short of the old glories of Brindisi basketball and all the fans of the orange ball. After a few years, the tournament has returned to an international character with the participation of a foreign team, the Rouiba Club Basketball, an Algerian company that was hosted by the organization and that was able to admire and learn, during this week, the monumental and landscape beauties of the territory. A dutiful thanks to all the commercial activities that contributed to the hospitality and success of the event. The Algerian athletes traveled with RialBus and were guests of Mc Donald’s and Ortocotto of Brindisi.
At this evening’s ceremony, in addition to the local authorities, the Algerian Consul for Southern Italy, Chaouki Chemmam, and the Vice Consul, Layachi Aidouni, both from the Algerian Consulate in Naples, will be present.
