Residents of the Romiti neighborhood are once again calling for work to secure the area. Stefano Valmori, coordinator of the Romiti neighborhood committee, is giving them a voice. “Monday’s orange alert is a further alarm bell,” Valmori begins. “More than a year after the flood, residents have seen little work done to secure the Montone river, apart from the railway bridge where a bulldozer cleared debris. As a neighborhood committee, we are committed, as long as we remain in office, to urge the relevant authorities to do the work.”
“We also ask the new Forlì council, just installed, to guarantee the interventions, precisely because we saw that even on Monday, despite there being no damage and everything being monitored, we received many phone calls from people worried that the river could overflow its banks and flood even just a few centimeters of the homes of the population already flooded – continues the neighborhood coordinator -. The fear among the residents was evident. We cannot live in terror every time there is an alert. We reiterate the request for a work plan from the relevant bodies: from the Region to the Land Reclamation Consortium, for what is within their competence. We know that we cannot have 100% but we need certainties”.
“The new administrators must also take charge of the issue by helping us – continues Valmori -. at various levels we had been promised the dredging of the river, new embankments, the safety and restoration of the lock on Via Martiri delle Foibe, we have been offered interventions that we still haven’t seen. There have been local elections, in the autumn there will be regional elections, but we can’t wait. In the Romiti community, tension has grown since Saturday, when the alert notice went out, they were asking us what would happen. There are many people who are fixing up their houses with their own money. Every time it rains we don’t always want to start worrying.”
