An explosion, followed by a violent firetook place this evening, Thursday 27 June, after 8.30 pm in a shipyard in Muranoin the northern lagoon of Venice. Two boats on fire house boat (tourist boats), one diesel-powered, the other electric, with a thick column of smoke rising, visible for hundreds of meters. There are no people expected to be involved or missing.
I fire fighters and the local police of Venice immediately arrived on site inside the Scarpa shipyard, in Serenella area. The Treviso health workers were also mobilized by helicopter. The flames they completely enveloped the two moored boats, about 10 meters long, on which there was no one. The firefighters intervened not only to extinguish the fire but also to contain the possible pollution due to the spillage of diesel into the water.
They are not known at the moment cause of the explosion. Witnesses reported that the first explosion was followed by a second.
