“Bartolo mayor? It would be a great thing”

“Pietro Bartolo mayor of Marsala? That would be a nice thing. He is a person of great humility and competence, the work he has done in recent years at the European Parliament has been very precious. He obtained 44 thousand votes”.

For Linda Licari, a member of the Democratic Party of Marsala and a former city councilor, the figure of the doctor from Lampedusa, a former member of the European Parliament, could be a bit like that of the “foreign Pope” who solves the city’s problems.

“The ideal would be to find a synthesis without many clashes in view of the electoral campaign for the local elections”. In Marsala the centre-left forces meet again to collect signatures for the minimum wage. The representatives of the Democratic Party, the Green Left Alliance, the Young Democrats, the Five Star Movement, the Italian Socialist Party, the South Call North, and the Rifondazione Comunista have organized the collection of signatures for today, June 28th at 7pm in Piazza della Vittoria (Porta Nuova). Other events on the same theme will follow in the northern and southern suburbs of the city.
“Below 9 euros an hour is no longer work but exploitation. It’s impossible to live, this is good to make people understand and raise their voices. The Meloni government has betrayed the people, it has betrayed the working class”, adds Linda Licari.
A somewhat strange coalition, which brings together acronyms that obtained few votes in the last electoral round. The challenge is to beef up the consensus. “It’s a way to start, to share the battles, it’s not yet a coalition”. Pd which however was absent on the issues that most closely concern the citizens of Marsala, and many wondered where the party was when it was time to get to grips with the living flesh of the city, or again when the motion of no confidence in the mayor was discussed. “We have always been here, we were ready to write about any disaster of the mayor. We will return to talk. We did not take a position on the motion of no confidence because we were a week away from the elections and it would have been appropriate to postpone. But we are here and we receive several requests from the citizens”. Here is the full interview.
