The new inspection pit for sailing boats with tilting centreboards up to 70 meters long, built in the Livorno shipyard, was presented by the Lusben shipyard to the national and international press.

Gianni Paladino, Lusben sales director, underlined in the press conference the strategic nature of the investment in this infrastructure thanks to which the shipyard will be able to expand the target audience of its services and take on new commissions such as interventions on sailing boats equipped with tilting keels.

With this investment, Lusben wanted to complete its offer by keeping Viareggio a centre of excellence mainly for motor yachts up to 52 metres and Livorno a centre of excellence mainly for motor yachts over 52 metres and for all the most important sailing yachts in terms of size.

With this investment worth half a million euros, Paladino recalled, the first phase of the plan is completed – which involves a total investment of 12 million euros – which included the basin area with new storage areas. Lusben will then continue with the further phases which involve the renovation of buildings in the construction site area which will be dedicated to management and crew offices and other dock areas.

The shipyard’s objective with this work is to be the reference hub in the refit and repair sector, including for large sailing yachts. The pit measures 12 meters long, 8.5 meters deep and 3.5 meters wide, and is the largest available in the Mediterranean today.

With these large dimensions, the pit allows you to easily carry out all ordinary and extraordinary maintenance operations, including painting operations, as well as direct interventions on the keel. The new structure lends itself to maximum versatility of use: on the one hand, it allows work on sailing yachts up to 70 metres, while on the other, thanks to two concrete modules covering the pit, it can be used for work on sailing boats. engine, expanding the space available at the Lusben site in Livorno for “classic” refit interventions.

The technical presentation of the work and the opportunities it offers was made by Alessio Centelli, site manager Livorno, who underlined the importance of having a new pit for sailing boats which will allow 360 degree work to be carried out on all boats up to at 70 meters in length with tilting centerboard: “It is an extraordinary work which today confirms the shipyard as a specialized center also for the world of sailing yachts” said Centelli.

Gianni Paladino, Sales Director, concluded by recalling how this important investment in the Livorno site, following what has already been achieved in recent years, confirms the Group’s desire to strengthen the Lusben division to consolidate its position as an absolute reference for refits in the Mediterranean in the coming years.
