Figure Skating in Messina, the winners in the various categories

The best Calabrian athlete and winner of the Trofeo dello Stretto 2024 was 19-year-old Maria Antonietta Ferraro, Società Sportiva Calabria of Reggio Calabria, who presented a moving free dance entitled: “Cutro: Ali sul Mediterraneo”. Maria Antonietta gracefully represented all the pathos and anguish of landings in our territory, concluding however with a happy ending, imagining that for migrants, our beautiful Calabria is a land of freedom.

For the Sicily region, the title of best Sicilian athlete and winner of the Trofeo dello Stretto 2024 went to the athlete of the Futura 90 of Messina: Elisa La Rosa. Elisa, born in 1999 and a leading athlete in the Messina sports scene, presented a program with high technical content, captivating the audience at the PalaBenvenuti, with powerful and expressive skating, fast and at times gritty. The choreography entitled: “Il Peccato di Eva” was wonderful.

In the hard-fought race of the Division Esordienti category, first place went to the talented athlete of Futura 90: Paola Francesca Castano. In the Division Allievi, Antonia Trunfio from Reggio Calabria of the Società Sportiva Calabria stood out for her grace and elegance. Once again in first place, in the Division A category, we see Alessandra Nocera from Reggio Calabria of the Società Sportiva Calabria, already known in the Calabrian sports scene. In the Division B category, Clarissa Panzera, a rapidly growing athlete from Reggio, from ASD Calabria, won the gold medal. Finally, in the Division C category, the first place of Marianna Manti, a skilled and well-known athlete from Reggio registered with Società Calabria, and the first place in Division D of the very talented athlete from Messina Angelica Sparacino ASD Futura 90, is not surprising.

The performances of the National categories gave great emotions and satisfaction, in which the judges wanted to reward the athletes for their technical content and artistic value: Irene Maria Scarpino Soc. Sport. Calabria (National Beginners), Simone Certo Futura 90 (National Students), Rachele Lupò of Futura 90 (National Students), Martina Camilla Felicissimo Società Sportiva Calabria (National Youth), George Agrillo of Futura 90 (National Youth), Ilaria Carpenzano Futura 90 (National Juniors) and Elisa La Rosa (National Seniors) also of Futura 90 of Messina.

Figure skating in Messina, space even for the little ones

The competition also saw the participation of the youngest athletes, those of the International Giovanissimi and Esordienti categories, skating talents who represent the future of the Sicilian and Calabrian sports scene. In the female Giovanissimi category, the skilled athlete from Lamezia won first place: Benedetta Vescio of ASD Lamezia, in the male Giovanissimi category the gold medal goes to the promising and talented Manuel Branciforti ASD Skating Spree of Giarre. First place in the female Esordienti category is Ilenia Iaria, an athlete from Reggio, of the Società Sportiva Calabria, with excellent stylistic and interpretative quality and finally the gold in the male Esordienti category goes to Giulio Neri, of the Società Sportiva Calabria, an athlete from Reggio with a natural aptitude for this sport and dynamic skating.

In the meantime, while for many athletes, the holidays are now imminent, for others the training continues and indeed intensifies in view of the next Italian Skating Championships that will take place in July in Piancavallo. To them we dedicate this maxim: “Medals are won in training, in competitions you only go to collect them”.
