Lamezia, the calendar of the 47th MusicAMA and the 2024/25 Theater Season of AMA Calabria presented

Lamezia Terme – Two different projects, those presented in preview by AMA Calabria for the next season, but with a single common objective: to attract tourism to the city, both regionally and from outside the region. For this purpose, the events of the 47th MusicAMA Calabria have been selected, which will begin on November 30, 2024 and end on December 29, 2024, but also the entire AMA Calabria Theater Season 2024/25, with a calendar full of quality events, which once again do not deny the association’s policies of growth, cultural development and valorisation of the territory. A virtuous and collaborative reality, that of AMA, which closes 2023 with a clearly positive balance, a Season with half of the events sold out, and public attendance figures that are not only equivalent but superior to the pre-Covid period. This year’s idea is consistent with the need to always improve, which obtains the patronage of ENIT (Italian National Tourism Agency), and is aimed, in the words of the artistic director Francescantonio Pollice, at “enhancing the Calabria brand in Italy and in the world, and to make our city, which we all love viscerally, not only a city of commerce, services, and therefore of transit, but also a city of residence”.

To this end, MusicAMA events will take place on weekends, and will be promoted by ten different Cultural Institutes spread across Europe and the world. The administration accepted the request to place an updated information totem at the airport with the entire offer of cultural events taking place in the city, and those proposed by AMA will be particularly attentive to the needs of the public, not just local ones. It starts on November 30th with Luca Barbarossa’s concert “Cento Storie per Cento Canzoni”, title of the publication of the same name coming out for La Nave di Teseo, synonymous with great national visibility. Italian song is still the protagonist in Alice’s “Master Songs” event, scheduled for December 15th, which features masterpieces such as those by Franco Battiato. Also on the calendar are two musicals, “Aladin” and “Broadway stars this is a musical”, and by popular demand two Gospel concerts which will close 2024 on a high note. For lovers of classical music there will be some concerts located throughout the city, aimed at valorising of its places and some sacred buildings, as well as the celebration of important anniversaries: the “Concert with Camerata ducale” at the church of the Addolorata (Pietà), for the 200th anniversary of the death of Giovan Battista Viotti, Founder of the Italian Violin School; the “Via degli Ulivi” concert, at the “Franco Costabile” Municipal Theater, dedicated to the celebration of the poet’s centenary; finally, on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, the concert-meditation “Tota Pulchra es Maria” by the “Ancillae Domini” choir, at the church of San Giuseppe.

For those who love humour, the show “Tutto Teo” by Teo Teocoli, a character particularly loved by the general public, is scheduled for 26 December. Also of particular value is the Theater Season, again organized between Lamezia and Catanzaro, which starts on October 25th with “Good Morning Dad”, starring Roul Bova and Rocìo Munoz Morales, and features shows taken from the works of Pirandello and Shakespeare , as well as artists of the caliber of Massimo Ghini, Angela Finocchiaro, Gianmarco Tognazzi, Massimo Daiuto, the Moscow Ballet and many others. “We have implemented a sustainable pricing policy”, explains Pollice, “with particular discounts for historic subscribers who have been loyal to us in these pandemic years, but also formulas aimed at attracting new audiences”. An extraordinary event is also scheduled for August 12th: the concert of the Italian Orchestra of Arbore at Parco Mitoio, which in the intentions of the administration will be the prelude to a series of events which will have this fascinating location as their theatre, destined according to Mascaro to become ” a point of reference at a regional level”.

After thanking the Councilor for Culture Annalisa Spinelli and the Councilor for Entertainment Luisa Vaccaro, both, like the mayor, enthusiastic about the work of AMA, Mascaro underlines, at Pollice’s request, the interest recently shown by the Region towards the city, from a cultural point of view and not only, with the reformulation of public transport with an increase in mileage, investments for the construction of film studios in the former SIR area, financing for the airport – “the opening of the new terminal is imminent ” –, and those disbursed for the resolution of the Scordovillo problem – “36 million euros, which are added to the 8 million received from the Ministry”. Mascaro also takes the opportunity to underline the effectiveness of the “policy of small steps”, which led AMA to the “stabilization of positivity”, and at the same time its administration to “exit from the predisposition on 31 December 2023, and Lamezia Multiservizi to exit from the composition with creditors on 30 June 2024”. “We need to take note of the resources that exist”, concludes Mascaro, “and not bite off more than we can chew, in order to increase the possibilities of rebirth and enhance the resources of our community”.
