Carlo Conti has decided to separate the Youngs from the Bigs and return to the previous formula but there is big news. The approach to the final selections will be more in-depth

Carlo Conti is starting its own little revolution within the Sanremo Festival 2025, from 4 to 8 February. The host and artistic director had already announced that the Young People would be separated from the Big Ones again. A little throwback, but this time there is more than one small and big news.

“The reintroduction of the New Proposals category, separate from that of the Bigs – declares the artistic director Carlo Conti – is intended to constitute a concrete moment of further valorisation of young people. The model that has been identified, and also the lowering of the chronological age, serves to build a three-month growth path, between the various steps of “Sanremo Giovani. All aimed at identifying the potential Bigs of the future through the challenge in the New Proposals category in February”.

First of all, the participation age has been lowered: Anyone between the ages of 16 and 26 can participate. In the first phase Conti and the Music Commission – chaired by him – will be busy listening to all the pieces presented to arrive at a list of at least 40 artists. Then the live auditions in the historic headquarters of Via Asiago in Rome, to reach a total of 24 young artists.

From November 12th the real competition will begin with the traditional challenges: for four second evenings on Rai 2 (12, 19, 26 November and 3 December) 6 artists per episode will perform their songs live but only 3 of them will pass the round, judged also in this case by the Music Commission.

At the Semifinal on December 10thbroadcast in the late evening on Rai 2, the 12 selected will gain access and, through the mechanism of direct challenges, will be reduced to 6. These 6 finalists will be joined by 2 artists from the Sanremo Area competition, again selected by the Rai Music Commission.

Grand finale on December 18th in prime time on Rai 1, live from the Sanremo Casino. The 8 potential New Proposals must win the right to perform in February during the Festival. Another novelty is that only 4 of them (3 from Sanremo Giovani and 1 from Area Sanremo) will be able to land on the stage of the Ariston Theatre. In the Sanremo Giovani final, the evaluation of the competing artists will be entrusted to a musical commission and, through televoting, to the public: each with a weight of 50%.
