Punitive raid against competitor, two carnies arrested in Reggio Calabria

(LaPresse) First not too veiled threats like “you mustn’t ride here”, then the beating. This is how two carnies originally from the Vibo greenhouses attempted to chase away a competitor, trying to prevent him from assembling his carousel on the occasion of the past feast of Saint Anthony. However, the physical and moral injuries did not get the better of the spirit of the attacked person who, rescued by passers-by and transported to Polistena Hospital, found the strength to tell all the details to the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria. The statements thus made it possible to reconstruct the entire story and identify the attackers, two brothers aged 31 and 21, against whom the investigating judge of the Court of Palmi, Dr. Mirabelli, issued a precautionary measure. The images of the municipal video surveillance cameras, which immortalized the punitive raid, which took place on 6 June in the central Piazza Fava di Taurianova, corroborated the investigators’ thesis. The images documented the cruelty of the beating and the hail of stick blows, kicks and punches that fell on the victim. As stated in the precautionary measure, today’s arrestees, already known to investigators for their criminal or police records, had already attempted to oust their competitor from the previous feast of St. Anthony. In 2023, in fact, the victim was approached by the two attackers, animated by the desire to be the only ones to set up rides in the area intended for street vendors. The two brothers will face the trial under house arrest and will be called to answer for the serious crimes of extortion, injury and damage against the competing carnie.
