New attack in Marsala, waste tax increases

New blow for the people of Marsala. In fact, the Tari, the tax on waste, is increasing.

The new tariffs for domestic and non-domestic users (restaurants, bars and businesses of all types) are subject to a surge of even more than 50%.
The new tariffs were approved by the council led by the mayor Massimo Grillo to be sent to the city council for final approval.
The cost of the waste collection and disposal service is covered entirely by the Tari, and therefore by the taxes paid by citizens. A cost that has increased compared to 2023.

This year the Municipality pays 16 million 913 thousand euros including VAT for waste management, based on the financial economic plan. An account that includes fixed costs, equal to €12,738,948.00 and variable costs, equal to €4,174,456.00.
However, for the purposes of determining the TARI tariffs, the overall costs are equal to Euror 15,595,330.00 (including VAT and activities outside the integrated HR cycle, net of Arera deductions), of which €11,834,562 of fixed costs and €3,760,768.00 of variable costs.

So 15 and a half million euros of Tari that users will have to pay. All in three installments, in August, October and December.

However, the tari increases compared to 2023, and in some cases even by a lot.
Below is the diagram of costs and differences with 2023 for domestic and non-domestic users.
The only families that pay less are those made up of just one person. While for all the others there is an increase in price. For example, in homes of 100 m2, families with two people will pay 18 euros more, 3 people +31 euros, 4 people +47 euros, 5 people +66 euros, 6 people +76 euros. In some cases this is an increase of 30%.

Price increases also for commercial activities, restaurants, bars, pastry shops, and any other type of non-domestic user. Among the highest price increases are those of bars, cafes and pastry shops which will pay over 275 euros more, on average, or discos which pay even 390 euros more, or even restaurants and pizzerias (+150 euros).

A new drain therefore for the people of Marsala, after those arriving with the new school year for canteens and nurseries.
It must also be said that there is a lot of evasion of the Tari. In Marsala, over one in three does not pay the waste tax, and this is also evident from the many waste abandoned on the streets.

A very high cost, that of the Tari, for a service that is not always up to par and with a situation at a regional level that leaves the Municipalities panting. In fact, with the arrival of summer, the usual inconveniences are expected in the disposal, especially of undifferentiated waste.
In recent days, for example, the closure of the “Lentini Sicula Trasporti” landfill was ordered. By virtue of this, Marsala, one of the 147 municipalities that provided the “dry” fraction, was also unable to collect MSW.
