PAVIA – The ceremony of 250th anniversary of the Guardia di Finanza was held yesterday afternoon in the internal courtyard of the Ten. Francesco Lillo barracks Pavia, headquarters of the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza. In the presence of civil, religious and military authorities of the province, and with the participation of a representation of Pavia financiers and the local sections of the National Association of Italian Financiers (ANFI), the event celebrated the motto “In Tradition the Future ”, chosen by the financiers to represent this important anniversary.
From 1 January 2023 to 31 May 2024, the Pavia Financial Police carried out almost 4,600 inspections and over 1,000 investigations, a titanic job to combat every form of economic-financial crime and to block criminal infiltration into the legal economy. This relentless effort revealed 56 total tax evaders and 2,385 illegal or irregular workersleading to reporting of 191 subjects for tax crimes and to the seizure of assets worth almost 18 million euros. The target? Ensure that every euro of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan is spent correctly, for the benefit of families and businesses.
But the numbers tell only part of the story. The action of the Financial Police went further, sinking its roots into the depths of organized and financial crime. Anti-money laundering investigations have brought this to light illicit operations for over 75 million euros, while the commitment against illegal banking saw the denunciation of five individuals. In the fight against organized crime65 people were reported14 of whom were arrested, and they were assets worth more than 10 million euros were seized.
No less impressive were the results in the fight against illicit trafficking. Almost 300 kg of narcotic substances were seized, And 56 individuals were reported, of which 14 were arrested. Market protection saw the seizure of nearly 160,000 counterfeit productsa significant blow to the illegal trade that threatens Made in Italy.
On the public spending front, the Financial Police has put the use of European Union and national resources under the magnifying glass. Were performed 88 interventions to ensure that the funds of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan are used correctly. The investigations uncovered significant fraud, with over 2 million euros in contributions being unduly received.
