During the speech Meloni wanted to commemorate the death of Singh, the Indian laborer left to die of starvation on the street, with a torn arm, after an accident at work in the fields of the province of Latina. It is the first time that he has mentioned the case in the news in public (but he also spoke on the point during last week’s meeting of the Council of Ministers). “A horrible and inhumane death due to the atrocious way in which it occurred, but even more so due to the disgusting attitude of her employer,” the prime minister said. After these words, many parliamentarians started a long round of applause, which was immediately joined by Foreign Minister Tajani, but not by Minister Salvini, who started applauding only a few seconds later. Some deputies also stood up to commemorate the death of the laborer, which then prompted the prime minister to address the two deputy prime ministers in Roman dialect to tell them to stand up and join in the applause.
During the applause, then, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani addressed Meloni in a low voice, but still with the microphone open, telling her: “I had the family (Singh’s, ed). The Prime Minister then replied: “Bravo!”.
