Central Palace of the University of Catania Piazza Università from 27 June to 19 July 2024, pay homage to the city where the event was born

The international Taomoda exhibition combined with the Tao Awards, born in Catania and then moved to Taormina, conceived and directed by the journalist Agata Patrizia Saccone

On the occasion of its 25th edition, it celebrates its origins with a cultural event that anticipates the Taormina event, the exhibition “The Homo Sapiens”. A collection of 40 shots signed by Arturo Delle Donne which will be hosted by June 27th to July 19th at Museum of Sicilian Knowledge and Mirabilia.

At the inauguration of the exhibition which will be held tomorrow Thursday 27 June at 5.30 pm, among others, the Magnificent Rector of the University of Catania Prof. Francesco Priolo, the internationally renowned artist author of the exhibition Arturo Delle Donne and Prof. Germana Barone, Director of the Museum of Sicilian Knowledge and Mirabilia.

This itinerant photographic and anthropological project, which debuted at the Museum of Chinese Art and Ethnography of Parma, aims to testify to the uniqueness of the peoples of the Earth through the careful study of traditional clothing, a symbol of belonging and culture, as well as of connection with native land. An itinerary of discovery and exploration, which arises from an idea of knowledge of a cultural diversity often forgotten in the name of standardization.

With the incoming migratory flow, which since the 1970s has exceeded the outgoing one, new traditions, religions, habits and customs and languages have begun to be part of our cultural system. But not only

New ethnic goods have entered, such as clothing, which is universally considered the first form of communication of a people. The first language set in motion when two people meet are physiognomy and clothing, understood in a visually broad sense, such as clothing, accessories, hairstyle, permanent signs. A fixed point, in short, in a whirlwind of material and immaterial contrasts evidently found in every urban perimeter.

The Homo Sapiens is therefore a research into a “fashion” that tells stories, legends, rites and cultures handed down

The story is an exploration of memories and bonds that each of the subjects told has with them on their journey in search of a new world.

The traditional costume is worn as a memory or link to one’s land of origin. The dress becomes belonging, awareness and pride. Wearing it represents an act evocative of bonds and one’s roots

The Homo Sapiens is a long tale of people, customs and habits found in new lands. Costumes that mix or hide, but which remain dear and precious to their owners, in memories or in intimate moments.

With the landing in Catania, the artist Arturo Delle Donne enriches his journey among the Homo Sapiens of the World with a new stage

Forty large portraits are the incipit of a potentially infinite heritage, preserved in the wardrobes or trunks of many houses scattered throughout Italy. Splendid works of craftsmanship, a riot of shapes, colors and materials that affirm pride and a sense of belonging.
