“Italy in Frame”, the national project created by Corepla, the National Consortium for the Collection, Recycling and Recovery of Plastic Packaging, continues its journey around Italy with the aim of celebrating Italian beauties and raising citizens’ awareness of good practices related to plastic recycling. After the Messina stage in 2023, the Consortium once again involves Sicily, reaching the splendid locations of Ragusa and Scicli.

Project Objectives

Giovanni Cassuti, president of Corepla, declared: “Sicily is an island rich in natural and artistic beauties that deserve to be framed. This priceless heritage must be enhanced and protected by promoting virtuous activities capable of promoting a greater culture of recycling in citizens and tourists. Plastic is a precious resource which, if correctly collected and recycled, can constantly be reborn from itself and transformed into new objects, making the citizen’s effort concrete.” Cassuti underlined the importance of the province of Ragusa, which recorded 27 kg of plastic per capita in the last year, a good result compared to the national average of 25 kg. He also reiterated the need to continue aiming for new goals through synergy with the territory to create a real circular economy.

Events and inaugurations

In the presence of the mayor of Ragusa Giuseppe Cassì, the councilor for the environment Mario D’Asta and Giuseppe Ciraolo, Corepla institutional relations manager, the street furniture of Italia in Cornice was inaugurated this morning in Piazza San Giovanni in Ragusa. This furniture, made entirely of recycled plastic, includes a frame and two panels containing QArt Codes created by the artist Ale Giorgini. The QArt Codes allow citizens and tourists to easily access all the information on how to correctly dispose of plastic packaging in urban waste collection. In the afternoon, the frame and the panels will be moved to Marina di Ragusa in Piazza Torre, one of the main destinations for seaside tourism in Sicily.

Also on June 26th, a second setting will be inaugurated in Scicli at 7.00 pm in via Francesco Mormina Penna, in the presence of the mayor of Scicli Mario Marino.

Future activities

“Italy in the Frame” is only the first of the projects that will involve the two municipalities. On the evenings of 28, 29 and 30 June, on the seafront of Marina di Ragusa and in the center of Scicli, Corepla will carry out awareness-raising activities for citizens and tourists, offering information on the separate collection of plastic packaging with the distribution of information material and gadgets. New projects linked to schools will be activated in autumn to further promote the culture of recycling among young people.
