The mayor from Catania, Enrico Trantinohas just requested a technical meeting to discuss a topic of great importance for public transport: the transition gradually by the old bus powered by fossil fuels to those powered by methane, electricity or hydrogenin line with the directives of the National Strategic Plan for Sustainable Mobility (PSNMS).
At the technical meeting, held at the headquarters of the Metropolitan City, they numerous mayors participated, interested in protection of the environment and human healthkey highlights strongly linked to sustainable development.
The resources for the purchase of the new buses were assigned by the Ministry to the Metropolitan City of Catania, which developed a spending plan distributed on 15 years, from 2019 to 2033. The first five yearsalready concluded, involved the purchase of exclusively methane vehicles. In the next few yearswe will proceed with the purchase of electric and hydrogen buseswhich require specific infrastructures for electric charging or for hydrogen engines.
Mayor Trantino declares: “Reducing emissions in the transport sector is a key element in the fight against climate change. The Metropolitan City of Catania will equip itself with a bus fleet with more technological and environmentally friendly engines. We therefore want to increase local public transport services with a view to environmental sustainability, part of a broader project that includes the opening of new metro stops, intermodal transport and smoother connections between Catania and surrounding centres.the”.
