“The paths cannot be defaced by motor vehicles”

(press office) – “In recent days, thanks to an important meeting that took place with the president of the CAI-Section of Terni Massimiliano Raggi, we have explored the contents of the so-called Puletti amendment – declares Maria Elena Gambini, municipal councilor of Popular Alternative – confirming yet another crazy and wicked decision adopted by the regional government led by the League in the person of president Tesei and tourism councilor Agabiti.
For those who don’t know, last December 19th the legislative assembly of the Umbria Region approved, without preliminary investigation, without debate and without having heard any interested body or subject (therefore without democratic participation), an amendment to the Regional Law 28/2001, allowing the free circulation of motor vehicles in the woods and mountains, effectively equating mountain paths to carriage roads.
To think that paths of faith, spiritual paths, SIC sites of community interest, up to the hiking network registered in the national cadastre of CAI paths, could be wildly disfigured by the transit of motor vehicles is unacceptable, a real barbarity towards a Region known for to be the green heart of Italy.
Among other things, this decision risks nullifying the millionaire investments made for the promotion of slow and sustainable tourism in Umbria, irrecoverably damaging the tourist economy of our area.
Our administration will immediately undertake to activate any measure that may be useful to neutralize the harmful effects of this amendment, starting with a specific ordinance and an ad hoc regulation for the use of the paths. A letter of formal notice will be sent to the Region already in the afternoon.”
