Bologna, 26 June 2024 – La Women’s Basketball League is evaluating together with its lawyers the possibility of taking action against the company Virtus Bologna for the notable harm immediately at the image level.
After the meeting held on 24 June, the Women’s Basketball League issued a statement in which, in addition to expressing its bitterness for the waiver by Virtus to participate in the A1 series championship, announces possible lawsuits towards the president’s club Massimo Zanetti.
“The assembly unanimously expresses its bitterness for the sudden resignation to the participation in Serie A1 by Virtus Bologna, which resulted in a negative impact on Italian women’s basketball and in general on the entire national basketball movement – reads the press release – In this regard, the Lega Basket Femminile is evaluating together with its lawyers the possibility of taking action against the company Virtus Bologna for the considerable damage suffered in terms of image.”
The League led by the president Protans he then underlined how “the desire to adopt common strategies is finally shared by the entire Assembly while maintaining the primary objective protection of the entire heritage basketball, human and professional that has always distinguished our world”.
Harsh words which were also followed by those of the general manager of Schio Paolo De Angelis who in his speech at Vicenza newspaper underlines: “I’m angry, this choice is a serious damage for the movement of women’s basketball. Five years ago the League almost changed the rules to let Virtus enter directly into A1 without having to go through the process. We lost five finals before winning the first championship without ever giving up. With everything that was done to get them in, they had the moral duty to continue in A1. I hope in the future there will be sanctions in the regulations, we need to have guarantees to compete in Serie A1. We lose a team that did championship finals and participated in EuroLeague with excellent players. Women’s basketball is north central, but Campobasso he showed seriousness and did the youth recruitment. Those are the companies we want”.
