Agri-food and fishing challenges discussed at the Legacoop Romagna and Imola congress

The Legacoop congress

Climate change, extreme events, alien species that put ecosystems at risk, dramatic increase in energy costs: there are many challenges to face for the agri-food and fishing and aquaculture cooperatives associated with Legacoop Romagna and Legacoop Imola who met on Tuesday 25 June in the meeting room of the Cooperativa Terremerse in Bagnacavallo for the territorial congress of the sector. In view of the regional and national events, there were representatives of 75 companies with 23,200 members and 7,700 employees, which generate a total production of over 2.2 billion euros.

At the end, the assembly elected the delegates who will be called to participate in the regional congress of the agri-food sector of Legacoop: Alberto Asioli (Cevico), Gabriele Bacchi (Alac), Lino Bacchilega (Cevico), Gianluca Balzani (Apofruit), Martino Benzoni (Apofruit), Samuele Bertuzzi (Coop. Sea), Mauro Zangoli (Coop. Sea Workers – Rimini).

Speakers included, among others, the president of Legacoop Agroalimentare Nazionale, Cristian Maretti, the president of Legacoop Romagna, Paolo Lucchi and the president of Legacoop Imola, Carlo Alberto Gollini. The territorial assembly was also an opportunity for in-depth analysis (thanks to the interventions of the general director of Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Valtiero Mazzotti, and of the Ismea supply chain and market analysis manager, Fabio Del Bravo) on the evolution of the common agricultural policy and on agri-food markets in the context of the global crisis.

«Unfortunately the flood – explains the president of Legacoop Romagna, Paolo Lucchi — has had a major impact on the sector, and companies are still reporting major delays in compensation, while we would instead need the maximum possible support from the government. The challenges for cooperatives in the agri-food sector are multiple and complex and our system is committed to supporting its members with concrete proposals: we need to focus on innovation to face a future characterized by climate change and economic transformations, promoting an economic model that is able to reconcile development and centrality of people and communities”.
