Bad weather, Coldiretti Piacenza: “Very serious situation in the fields”

Damage counting continues in the Piacenza area hit again by the bad weather.

The situation in the fields – notes Coldiretti Piacenza – is highly problematic throughout the province due to the continuous flooding and water bombs recorded in recent months. The storm that hit in recent days, with violent rain and strong winds, caused damage and inconvenience throughout the territory, both to crops and infrastructure. Yesterday the volume of water entering the Mignano dam from the upstream basin in less than 24 hours was 3.5 million cubic metres, confirming the intensity and exceptional nature of the disturbance.

The overflows recorded yesterday have further aggravated the situation in particular in the plains and in Lower Piacentina.

Heavy losses are estimated in tomatoes (in some areas the transplants have not yet been completed) and in cereals, where the land is so impracticable that even future threshing is uncertain. Added to this are delays in corn sowing due to too much rain and fruit losses: the cherry season is coming to an end with a significant part of the harvest compromised.

From Sunday to Tuesday, 51 storms hit northern and central Italy, equal to 3/4 of those recorded in the entire European Union. This is what emerges from a Coldiretti analysis of Eswd data.

Coldiretti Piacenza continues to collect and monitor the damage and has taken action with the relevant bodies, reporting the seriousness of the situation in the Piacenza area.

The invitation to farmers is to always report the damage suffered to the relevant Coldiretti area offices.
